whose fault when the bridge falls down

we were just trying to get to stable ground, like they promised
said we could cross it, someone rewrote the fine print
when we suffer, they profit “just get tougher, grow upwards”
we’ve jumped as high as we can, understand, how could you from comfort
there’s people drowning in the river, i shiver, revelations delivered
look i’ll be bitter until things get better, but until then i’m just watching the weather

how much matter can be compacted until the opposition has reacted
the illusion and confusion not so elusive in collusion, refusing to ask “who built it to break
who put the pillars in the wrong place, the stakes in the wrong game”
name the architect, the marketing exec, they sold us the toll on a road we were forced to go
because we cannot imagine a street without a sign or a box outside the lines
